How to use Cold Water Dye on wood

  1. Rub down and clean the wooden item thoroughly. Ensure there is no varnish or other special finish.

  2. Wearing rubber gloves, dissolve dye in 500ml/1 pint of hot water.

  3. Apply the solution evenly to the wood, using a sponge, brush or cloth. Always work with the grain of the wood.

  4. Allow to dry. To achieve a darker colour, apply further coats, ensuring that each one dries before applying the next.

  5. Apply a clear varnish to seal the dyed areas.

How to use Multi-Purpose Dye on feathers

  1. Fill a container with enough boiling water to cover feathers.

  2. Wearing rubber gloves, dissolve dye in 500ml/1 pint of boiling water.

  3. Add the dye solution to the container along with 500ml/ 1 pint of vinegar. Stir well.

  4. Put feathers into the container and agitate gently
until they are a shade darker than required – a few
seconds for light shades, a few minutes for darker shades.

  5. Rinse and shake gently. Place on a paper towel to dry.
Gently reshape feathers during the drying time.
